iviva not only runs natively on cloud but also on-premise and in air-gapped hostile environments. And we made this a lot easier in v5. Read on to learn more
The Cloud is a natural place for comprehensive platforms like iviva to sit.
Customers do not have to work with complex maintenance of software or do updates or manage hardware.
Their accounts are provisioned instantly. The cloud is elastic and scales up and down based on your needs without upfront investment.
And its available everywhere.
iviva was one of the first smart building platforms to offer a cloud-native subscription and delivery model for deployment and its still the easiest way to get started today.
Today almost all platforms have a cloud offering.

But wait, there’s more
However, what we found was, the cloud isn’t suitable for everyone and as more platforms go to cloud and become cloud-only, there’s a class of customers who are getting left behind.
For example:
- Government organizations
- Operations in countries that have restrictions on where you can host and where data goes
- Customers who have stringent requirements on data privacy
There’s also another problem that doesn’t get talked about much:
The opex model for cloud based delivery does not align with some customers in price-sensitive markets (and the building market is, if nothing else, price sensitive).
An on-premise deployment model can provide a flexible capex-driven pricing mechanism for these customers.
The reason vendors go cloud only today is pretty obvious
- Easy to manage a single fleet of servers and easy to update
- You get to rely on managed services and reduce your points of failure
- The infinite scale of cloud lets you temporarily overcome operational and scaling issues

Going cloud-only would have been the safe choice but we lock out a long tail of customers and that’s not something we wanted to do.
iviva has always offered an on-premise deployment model but what’s new is how easy it is to setup.
You can now deploy iviva from a single command in minutes on a fresh machine.
And with version 5 we are now giving our partners and resellers the ability to do this themselves.
They no longer need to rely on us to get a new deployment up and running.
And iviva can scale from a single machine with a few gigs of RAM and CPU to a fleet of servers running in a cluster powering a smart city.
